Anna Bessonova...this name in rhythmic gymnastics means a lot. Anya is already written in the chronicle of this graceful kind of sports. Firstly, her achievement’s list has a lot of high titles – 4-times World Champion, winner of the World Cup in 3 routines, 3 times European Champion...this list is infinite. Secondly, Bessonova is a gymnast of an interesting and rarely met nowadays performance style. Finally, Anna’s father is a famous football player of the “Dynamo Kiev” of the past, and her mom is a 2 times World Group Champion. Surely, the fact that Bessonova has such reknowned parents doesn’t mean anything. But the thing is that the cases when children of the champions repeat the paths of their parents are very rare. Viktoria Bessonova was not an exception : she did not want to bring her girl into gymnastics. She wished to see her her on ballet stage much more. However, at the age of 5 her daughter categorically said that she wants to be a gymnast. That is how Anna made her first steps in gymnastics under the direction of her mother. However, she did not finish dance practising as well. And as her mom thinks, mostly thanks to her choreography training in the childhood, Anya got such a peculiar, classically impressive performance style.

Judges as well as astromers hesitated to announce the appearence of the new star in rhythmic gymnastics, though the at many tournaments they were positively turned to her. Anya, having only come into the carpet, fascinated the specialists and spectators by the rare combination of plastic expression and technical masterpiece. She can execute every difficult composition with waving easyness, to serve every intricate lace with impetuous vortex, demonstrating polished appratus work at one and the same time.

2001 was a difficult year for the gymnast. Anya had to change the compositions in a short period of time, to master new elements and to try to preserve her style, her individuality. Working under the new rules, it is practically impossible, but knowing the strong character of Anna Bessonova, her family sports endurance, it was evident that young Ukrainian will not stop in front of achieving her goals. 2002 became a real turning-point for Anna. Having put inside the tough frames of  new rules a long time ago forgotten creative character, having added to the stability in the all-round, Anya became one of the main candidates for the main role in the gymnastics’ play.  2002 saw the appearance of the “swan” hoop of Bessonova which is famous all round the world. It is not only a masterpiece, but also a unique combination of inspiration and technique. It is considered to be one of the best routines in the history of world gymnastics. Irina Deriugina with her unquenchable energy gave Anna that impulse that she lacked in the beginning of her sports carreir.

2003 brought new achievements : on the European Championship in Riesa (Germany) Ukrainian anthem was played 3 times in honour to Bessonova, and only in the ball routine Anna got the “silver”. Despite identical scores with Zarina Gizikova, the judges put the Russian gymnast ahead by additional parameters.

By Anna’s own admission, she did not expect such a high recongnition from the judges, she only tried to perform her programm so that her fans were pleased with her. By the way, an interesting Bessonova’s fan club was organized in Spain, the members of which try to attend every major competition, and support the talented ukrainian gymnast, waving with the blue-and-yellow flags.

Sceptics thought that the period of glory and high achievements will last only during the absence of Anna’s main rivals – Russians Kabaeva and Chaschina, but on the World Championship in Budapest Anna was on the top place of the award podium twice.

Anna was the first in the quallification. She has never been so confident and forceful. She was moving towards her dream, dream to win the World Championship. When the finals with apparatus finished, the fans of prognoses were naming Bessonova a World Champion and Russian journalists were puzzled : how is it possible to make such a big progress in just one year? Anna could. It is enough to remember only one routine – Anna’s hoop and it will become clear who was rulling the latest World Championship. Bessonova performed her hoop routine so wonderfully that the whole audience tribunes stood up, clapped...and booed, cried from indignation, having seen the score...Bessonova is 2nd...On the award ceremony Ukrainian gymnast got twice more ovations than Alina Kabaeva. And what can be better than the recognition of spectators from all over the world?

The artistry of the most graceful kind of sports is personified in this fragile, but experienced girl. Anya differs from the others thanks to her impeccable apparatus and body technique : her every leap is like that of a bird, every pivot deeply impresses with the purity of rotation, while balances are renowned for the fixed position. She is able to transmit the character of every routine, to transform out of the lyric swan into a passionate Spanish lover.

Unsurpassed execution and deep artistism, as well as wonderful natural talent – this is a formula of her success. Bessonova skillfully hides her emotions behind a marvelous smile, and sometimes you wonder : does she care about the difficulties of the sport
