Over the last weekend the gymnasts of Ukraine successfully participated on the tournament in Alicante, Spanish city that was dedicated to the 75-anniversary of the club Montemar which gave the world a plethora of best Spanish gymnasts. Meeting with Jacques Rogge 03 Oct 2006
On the 3rd of October Jacques Rogge, the President of the International Olympic Committee came to Ukraine by the invitatio of the President of the National Olympic Committee Sergey Bubka for a visit.

During his stay Jacques Rogge received a reknowned Doctoriat dyploma of the National institute for physical culture and sports. The official clothing was worn on his shoulders by the gymnasts Anna Bessonova and Natalia Godunko

European Championship 2006 - Moscow 01 Oct 2006
22nd European Championship in rhythmic gymnastics has recently finished in Moscow. It’s results can’t be considered totally succesful (only 4 bronze medals can be measured as a failure for the team of Ukraine), but one should pay attention to the fact that the Championship took place at the homeland of the old rivals of Ukrainians, under their full domination which was not always objective. We decided to talk with the Vice-president of the Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation and Technical Committee member Irina Deriugina about it’s results.

Right in several days the next 27th European Championship in rhythmic gymnastics will start in the capital of our Northern neighbours.
The biggest fans of this sport will remember that next year the European Championship has also taken place in Moscow. The history of gymnastics and the history of the hall sport has met only a few occassions when the same city twice hosted the most importnat competitions of the year. ..

From 8th till 10th of September in Portimao the next World Cup tournament took place where the team of Ukraine had a real triumph – 5 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Results from the competition

With 3 medals returned Ukrainian Gymnasts Daria Kushnerova and Marina Boyko from a competition in Buharest (Romania). They were 2nd in a team, having lost to a team from Bulgaria. Moreover, Daria Kushnerova achieved 2 individual medals : she was 1st with clubs and 2nd with hoop. Marina Boyko was 4th in rope final.

European Championship 2006 - Moscow 03 Aug 2006
Recently a draw of lots of the European Championship that will take place on 18-24 September in Moscow took place. Everybody interested can get information about it here . The draw was successful for the Ukrainian juniors that will be the main medal contenders in team event. They begin their competition in a 2nd group of participants after their main rivals - teams from Russia and Bulgaria. Ukrainian national group had much less luck - they are 4th in their group and begin from a routine with 5 ribbons.

FIG update 02 Aug 2006
Not a long time ago the International Gymnastics Federation published a newsletter 25 that gives insctructions for the next year. The changes mentioned in the newsletter are to improve the apparatus skills of the gymnasts.

From 26th of June till 3rd July one could feel again the Olympic spirit in Greece - in Athens and Tsalloniki a World Gimnasiade among pupils was taking place in 4 kinds of sport : artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, track and field and swimming.

Ukrainian Junior Championship 06 Jul 2006
In Lvov Ukrainian Junior championship has finished. Its results turned out to be suprising : it was won by the 14-year-old Daria Kushnerova, while Marina Boyko, who has yet the highest chances to represent Ukraine at European Championship among juniors this year, was only 2nd. Alina Maksimenko, who showed a good result at the Grand Prix that has finished in Israel, this time was only 4th, having made many mistakes in rope exercise. The chance was used by Kristina Cherepenina who won the bronze.

Results from the competition in Prato (Italy)
Succesful was the competition in Prato (Italy) for Irina Kovalchuk where there was only all-round competition. She won 2nd place, beind only after 3-times World junior champion Eugenija Kanaeva from Russia. 3rd place was occupied by the gymnast representing now Azerbaijan and earlier Russia at Grand Prix competitions Aliya Garaeva.

Results from the competition.
At the Grand Prix competition in Holon (Israel) that has finished over the weekend, the rhythmic gymnasts of Ukraine got 3 medals : in the Grand Prix final with rope Anna Bessonova celebrated victory, while Natalia Godunko was 3rd. Anna Bessonova also got a bronze medal in the clubs final. Whether this results is positive for Ukrainian team comments Irina Deriugina.

World Cup - Genova (Italy) 06 Jun 2006
On the World Cup event in Genova (Italy) Ukrainian group team, consisting of Inga Kozhohina, Irina Kovalchuk, Anastasia Bich, Polina Kandaurova, Viktoria Zubchenko and Vera Perederiy won 5 place in exercise with hoops and clubs and 6 place in exercise with 5 ribbons. This result allows the national team of Ukraine to hope for being present at the World Cup Final that will take place in November in Mie (Japan)

Minsk Grand Prix 21 May 2006
The next Grand Prix competition has finished over the weekend in Minsk. And with the end of this competition the patience of Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation is about to finish as well. Performing much better than all of the rivals, our gymnasts had to please themselves only with 3 bronze and 1 silver medals : Anna Bessonova was 3rd with rope, ball and clubs, while Natalia Godunko got “silver” for her clubs routine.

Triumph in Corbeil-Essones! 14 May 2006
On the tournament in French Corbeil-Essones Ukrainian rhythmic gymnasts won 11 medals! This competition is taking place for the 32nd time in a row, this year it gathered participants from 44 countries. We would like to note that last year on the World Championship in Baku there were 39 delegations. Therefore a small French city on the outskirts of Paris organized almost a World Championship!

Bourgas Grand Prix 09 May 2006
From 6 till 7 May the next Grand Prix competition in rhythmic gymnastics took place in Bulgarian Burgas, a spa city situated at the seaside of the Black sea. Anna Bessonova, Natalia Godunko and Irina Kovalchuk competed from Ukraine, but the judges gave their favour only to Bessonova, who got three bronze medals at this competition.

Nijny Novgorod World Cup 29 Apr 2006
Ukrainian National Group was not succesful at the World Cup event in Nijny Novgorod (RUS). In the all-round competition after the first exercise with 5 ribbons Ukrainian girls were in fifth position, but 5 drops in hoops/clubs exercise dropped them already to 8th place.
On the finals day they achieved 5th place in hoops/clubs routine and 7th in the exercise with ribbons

The National Cup and Championship took place from 16 to 20 April in Ukrainian city of Dneprodzerjinsk. This time a new system of it’s conducting was adopted : Ukrainian National Championship in group exercise was organized separately from an individual one. The number of participating teams is worth a record – 30 groups from all over Ukraine. To make the tournament have more variety, it was decided to add Ukrainian Cup among 25 strongest gymnasts by the results of Ukrainian Club Championship that took place in Bila Tserkva in February.

On Saturday, the 15th of April international tournament "Kalamata Cup" that is traditionally taking place at these dates has started. Ukrainian gymnasts gathered a full pack of medals after the first day : in all-round of individual gymnasts the 1st 2 places were conquered by Anna Bessonova and Natalia Godunko, while in group exercise our girls managed to become 3rd!

This weekend Ukrainian graces took part in 2 competitions : the leaders of the national team went to the Greek Tselloniki to the tournament in commemoration of the reknowned Greek choreographer Nikoletta Kavourova, while a perspective Galina Shirkina went to the capital of Latvia - Riga, to the annual tournament "Baltic Hoop".

World Club Championship 15 Apr 2006
The last big tournament of the season was a traditional Club World Championship in Japan which was held for the first time under the patronage of FIG. Each club was represented by 3 gymnasts: 2 adults and 1 junior. The honor of Ukraine was defended by the Deriugins School, in which Anna Bessonova, Natalia Godunko and young Marina Boyko were participating. The competition was difficult and everybody was making mistakes. Ukrainians, it seemed, had the least amount of them out of all participants, but the results could be guessed beforehand. “Deriugins School” became 2nd right after the Russian team, while Anna Bessonova and Marina Boyko won individual bronze medals.

World Championship 15 Apr 2006
For the first time the world championship in an Olympic kind of sport took place in 2005 on the territory of Azerbaijan – Baku . The Championship was organized really well – more than 800 guests, daily banquets, huge competition hall. The only disappointing factor was empty tribunes and full absence of spectators which can’t positively influence the development of rhythmic gymnastics.
Let’s come back to the competition. In team event the National team of Ukraine objectively earned 2 place. Certainly, the leaders of our team Bessonova and Godunko are no worse than their Russian opponents, but the third gymnasts, young and perspective Irina Kovalchuk lacked some experience.

Universiade 15 Sep 2005
Universiade, Student Games have finished in the Turkish city of Izmir. All in all our gymnasts won 13 medals (5 gold, 4 silver and bronze), having made rhythmic gymnastics the most "medalled" kind of sport of Ukrainian national team.

The procedure for drawing of lots of the World Championship 2005 took place in Baku, the venue of the competition. Ukrainian individual gymnasts are in group C among with their strongest rivals - teams from Bulgaria and Belarus.
Ukrainian senior gymnasts are in group B, they will compete one of the last.
